A life-long car enthusiast, the owner of this stunning layered house was looking for a safe and secure space to showcase his collection. The avid entertainer also wanted open living spaces that connected with the outdoors for intimate or large gatherings. In addition, the design would have to make the most of the home’s site at the foothills of a Canberra mountain reserve.
Many different construction methods were integrated to form a strong foundation and minimise future maintenance for the owner. This being paramount, the team found a range of unique solutions by combining standard construction methods to create a duel protection system.
The result is a complex, sophisticated home that has delivered on the client’s brief and created a perfect place for both man and automobile. The Rivett project won both the 2016 MBA ACT Custom Home 250-350m2 and the 2016 HIA ACT New kitchen under $30,000.
