Grant Heritage
Renovation & Extension
This three bedroom 1930’s cottage required a renovation and extension that would allow a family of six to live comfortably. It was important to the client to maintain the homes early Canberra style but increase the natural light and space for the family.

This result was achieved by designing and constructing an extension that was to sit under the canopy of a 30m high, closely regulated, English Elm affectionately named ‘Big Ben’. The challenge was to increase the home size without increasing the visual impact from the street.

The regulatory and construction challenges were significant from the start. Despite the challenges we were able to pull it off and present the client with an award winning home. The Grant project was the successful winner of the 2014 HIA ACT Heritage Project of the Year.
